Vandalism Continues - Please Follow These Steps
You’ve no doubt heard that the vandalism at Glenwood Place is continuing each week. The Safety/Security Team is close to rolling out a Phased plan to make Glenwood Place less vulnerable to these attacks. Meanwhile, victims of vandalism have a responsibility to report it. The Portland Police Bureau has clarified that garages are “leased” by homeowners, which means homeowners are the only ones that can file a police report. If you need help filling out an AVR or a police report, there are several volunteers we can call on. Police reports provide hard data that Glenwood Place is repeatedly victimized by criminal mischief and vandalism. The importance of police reports is critical because they also influence how (and where) resources are allocated.
Police reports can be filed online by clicking on this link Report Filing – Portland Police Bureau. Or you can dial 311 or 503-823-3333 (available 24/7) to report non-emergencies. Dialing 311 is a second method of filing a police report but may involve wait times.
Here is the process to follow when you have experienced vandalism:
- The homeowner contacts Sarah Balliet at balliet77@gmail.com or calls Sarah at 503-936-0498 between the hours of 8am and 4pm. Please do not call outside of these hours. The homeowner lets Sarah know the unit number, exact location, type of damage and any other clarifying information. The homeowner provides Sarah their contact information.
- Sarah asks the homeowner to fill out an AVR and a police report and deliver both to the AVR box.
- Sarah reports the incident to the Maintenance contact and the maintenance contact assesses the damage and any immediate solutions required.
- Sharon Fraley records the AVR, assigns it a number and forwards it to the Maintenance contact.
- If an AVR is not turned in within 48 hours a volunteer will contact the owner to assist.
- If the volunteer is unable to obtain the AVR and police report from the homeowner, the Stewardship Committee will determine the appropriate next steps.
- Incident details will be forwarded to the Security team so that evidence can be extracted.
- Repairs will be scheduled in the order the AVRS are received.
This process combined with a phased community safety/security plan will make Glenwood Place a harder target for those who currently see us as an easy place to commit a crime and get away with it.
